History

A division of Alfa Wassermann, Inc., for over sixty years, a provider of quality pharmaceutical and diagnostic products and services to the health care community. For over sixty years, it has researched, manufactured and distributed drugs of primary importance for human health, thus allowing people to benefit from new discoveries in medicine, biology and genomics. The Company sets out to achieve excellence and does so thanks to the experience and passion of the people who work in the company.

1967

Started in 1967 under the name Electro-Nucleonics Inc. (ENI), AWST introduced the Model K Ultracentrifuge that year. In 1991, the company joined the Alfa group of companies under the name of Schiapparelli Biosystems, and introduced the Super G rotor – extending the operational speed from 35 000 rpm to 40 500 rpm and increasing the separating force to over 121 000 xg. The Smart Console was introduced in 1997 as a PC-based computer to provide greater control of the Ultracentrifuges and enable data handling to conform to industry standards for validation and traceability.

In 2001, the company name was consolidated to the parent business name of Alfa Wassermann. AWI has a more than 60-year history of providing quality products and services to the health care community. In addition to AWST, AWI’s subsidiaries include Alfa Wassermann Diagnostic Technologies, LLC (AWDT), which provides reliable and fully integrated clinical chemistry systems and reagents to laboratories in the clinical diagnostic and veterinary marketplace, as well as the life sciences market.

AWST, in addition to its industry leading air drive untracentrifuges, also offers electric drive technology to compliment the current air drive ultracentrifuge range.

The e-Drive range uses a PLC control, integrated refrigeration and electric motor drive to provide a system which enables the user utility to be only an electrical supply to the clean room, so simplifying the installation requirements.

The latest ultracentrifuge addition is the Alfa Wassermann Promatix 1000™. Promatix is a research scale, cGMP compliant, fully automated system to be used for process development or separation of research volumes. As with all AWST systems, rotors used in Promatix permit linear scalability to pilot and production volumes.
