SMARTSYSTEM™ Controls
AWST ultracentrifuges are controlled by the SMARTSYSTEM™. The main window is displayed on startup and during routine operation. It contains six indicator panels, a data-logging panel, a system control panel, and navigation buttons.

Indicator panels continuously display operating parameters.
They display a color-coded bar graph showing the status of each operating parameter and a digital readout showing the parameter value and its units. For example, the Main Oil System indicator panel displays a bar graph and digital readout of the main oil pressure (in bar or psig) and the flow rate of oil (in ml/minute or L/hr) through the upper and lower damper bearings.

A Data Logging panel indicates the information specific to the application. During operation, the events that occur, the indicator readings, triggering of an alarm, and clearing of an alarm are entered into a data log along with the date and time of each entry. This provides a permanent record of the run.

The System Control Panel contains color-coded buttons for controlling the ultracentrifuge. The buttons that are displayed depend on whether the Manual or Automatic operation mode is selected.

Context-sensitive navigation buttons provide access to pertinent functions and those to which the user is permitted access in the 3-level security system. Dedicated troubleshooting display panels assist the operator to rectify a fault that might have occurred.
Run data is normally stored on the hard drive of the built-in PC but can be exported if required. At any time after the run, an Audit Trail can be consulted to view all events. The format ensures that it can be read by all databases, spreadsheets and LIMS. Conformity with 21 CFR part 11 makes it easy to comply with current manufacturing and data protection requirements.
