NEW eKII Production Scale Ultracentrifuge
with Electric Drive and Compact Footprint for
Full Scale Production in Downstream Purification

The eKII Ultracentrifuge combines the industry standard ultracentrifugation technology of the Alfa Wassermann KII with new drive system technology to create an ultracentrifuge which is reliable, compact and low cost to run for Bio-pharmaceutical R&D and for cGMP manufacturing.

The eKII is a powerful purification tool for virus and viral vaccines providing comparable purity of product to chromatography and ultrafiltration methods. With full scale processing power and configurable operating features, the eKII provides efficient purification with a processing scale up to 200 liters via the use of a range of rotor assemblies.

The new eKII Production Scale Ultracentrifuge introduces a wide range of features to the Alfa Wassermann offer.

Industry-standard controls
The eKII control uses an industry-standard PLC to provide system stability and full data recording and a Windows® based HMI for ease of understanding and operation. Operational speed, flow rates and temperatures are monitored, controlled and recorded. User selectable configuration allows optimization, calibration and adjustment of these parameters to achieve ideal performance and repeatability from run to run.

GMP records are generated of the essential run data (Batch, Alarm and Event Logs) and are stored securely on the system, with password protection to prevent unauthorized access, data transfer via network and remote alarm handling.

Major cost savings
The cost per run is low and compared to other technologies there is no expensive or highly specific media to replace. By placing the control console behind and below the rotor lift, footprint is greatly reduced. This translates into substantial savings in building costs of cleanroom facilities. Existing area could easily be converted to house eKII units without the need to add utilities or extend the building program.

With low operating power consumption the energy cost savings will be significant over the lifetime of the ultracentrifuge.

High reliability
The induction motor with is cooled to ensure a long life and operation well within its functional tolerances.

Reduced utilities requirements
Only electrical services are needed to run the eKII. There is no requirement for compressed air (drive or stand-by braking) nor for exhaust air from the production area.

The rotor lift is also electrically powered, eliminating more fluids from the production area and simplifying the maintenance.

Superior Product Protection
An R134a refrigeration system cools glycol that circulates in the rotor chamber for highest safety.

Optimized convenience
The industrial grade touch screen with pop-up keyboard can be mounted to the left or right of the rotor lift and moved at any time by the user. The screen is mounted on an adjustable arm and can even face to the rear to assist in maintenance operations.

Doors in the console permit easy access to all assemblies. The console itself can be rotated and all hoses and cables are connected on top for convenience. A hose parking device ensures that disconnected hoses remain off the floor and readily to hand.

The new motor design has been developed to dramatically minimize noise, even during the braking phase.
